Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) project

A happy beneficiary taken back to school after drop out due to lack of school fees.

Redeemed Integrated Development Agency (RIDA), is implementing a five year USAID OVC program through world Vision dubbed TumikiaMtoto within Nairobi county in 5 sub counties i.e. Mathare, kasarani, Embakasi North, Roysambu and Ruaraka.
To achieve the project objectives, RIDA is working in collaboration with Government ministries and departments as well as
other stakeholders.

Who is eligible for enrolment in the programme?

Children and adolescent living with HIV (0-17 years old)

Children of people living with HIV

Children of female/male sex workers

Survivors of sexual violence

Highly exposed infants (HEI)

Health Domain

This domain includes interventions to support the achievement of better health outcomes.
Services include; –

Facilitating OVC with transport to seek emergency medical care

Community adherence support

Linkage to NHIF

Supporting viral load access

HIV screening at the community level

Linking identified OVC at risk of HIV infection for
HIV testing

Schooled Domain

Interventions to overcome barriers to accessing education including enrollment, attendance, retention, and progression and/or transition

Partial payment of school fees and levies

Provision of school uniform and shoes

Provision of sanitary towels/ dignity packs

Supporting OVC out of school to Vocational institutions

Safe Domain

Interventions to prevent and mitigate violence, abuse, exploitation and neglect of children and adolescents, including sexual
and gender-based violence

Evidence based intervention – Positive parenting(sinovuyo)

Sensitizing caregivers on importance of birth certificates

Facilitation on acquisition of birth certificate

Supporting AAC meetings

Stable Domain

Interventions that reduce economic vulnerabilities and increase resiliency in adolescents and families affected by and vulnerable to HIV.
Services include; –

Provision of business startup kits

Provision Business grant to boost business

Linkage to savings for transformation (Voluntary Savings and Loans Associations) and micro finance institutions i.e. Post bank

Training on food security/ nutrition

Linkage to Agribusiness and entrepreneurship
trainings through Ministry of Agriculture
